HomeKit-compatible security tools are all over CES 2020
The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock can be added to your door and your HomeKit network.
This week’s Consumer Electronics Show brings a range of security devices that support Apple’s HomeKit home-automation system, including the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock.
Other notable announcements are new security cameras from Abode, and a smart lock and pair of cameras from ADT.
August Wi-Fi Smart Lock with HomeKit
August started showing off its first smart lock with HomeKit way back in 2013, and has kept improving it ever since.
The version debuting at CES is dubbed the Wi-Fi Smart Lock. This, obviously, is the first version with Wi-Fi so it can connect directly to your HomeKit network. This means you can unlock your door with Siri commands.
Despite the improvements, it’s 45% smaller in volume and 20% slimmer than its predecessor.
August created a video to show off the capabilities of the Wi-Fi Smart Lock:
The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is scheduled for release later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced.
Abode Outdoor/Indoor Smart Camera
Abode announced at CES 2020 its Outdoor/Indoor Smart Camera. This was designed to be paired with a doorbell, alerting users when anyone approaches their door.
The camera sports a 152-degree lens with infrared night vision and motion sensing. Users can have 2-way communication with anyone near the smart camera thanks to a built-in microphone and speaker. And it records 1080HD video. It’s not battery powered, though — It’ll need a power outlet wherever it’s set up.
Abode submitted the Outdoor/Indoor Smart Camera forApple HomeKit Certification. The company recently added HomeKit support to its Iota home security hub.
A video highlighting the capabilities of its latest security camera was created by Abode:

ADT’s HomeKit-compatible Blue Doorbell combines a camera and a doorbell into one. It has a 180-degree field of view and night vision.
It was announced on Monday, along with a pair of security cameras that also support Apple home-automation system.
