MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G Chip for Mid-range Phones Announced
At its Product Communication Conference, Mediatek reportedly unveiled the Dimensity 800 chipset, which will serve Mid-range phones. It comes on the heels of Mediatek’s crown jewel – Dimensity 1000. And as you can deduce from the moniker, the new silicon will be a dialed down variant of the former.
Further, certain reports claim that the Dimensity 800 SoC will launch in the first quarter, next year. However, you might have to wait until Q2, 2020, when it’ll start shipping within the smartphones.

Barring this, the official announcement hasn’t let out many details. But we have managed to gather some rumors surrounding the chip. A leakster named Digital Chat Station alleges Dimensity 800’s model number as MT6873. Now, this particular SoC has hit our radar in the past.
As per the leaks, this one will be an octa-core chipset with two Cortex A76 performance cores and six Cortex-A50 efficiency cores. For comparison, the big brother Dimensity 1000 features a 4+4 core structure. It contains four Cortex-A77 power cores ticking at 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 2.2GHz.
