Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G with 192MP camera and NavIC support announced

02

Qualcomm today announced three new chipsets that fill the gap in its existing affordable and lower-midrange lineup or the market where MediaTek is trying hard to make a comeback.

These are 4G LTE only chipsets and the first lot to support ISRO’sNavIC constellationfor better location accuracy in congested urban areas. The Snapdragon 720G leads the pack and should be a replacement for Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 712 powered gaming phones moving forward. As the ‘G’ moniker denotes, the chipset leverages “select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features from premium-tier mobile platforms”, but Qualcomm also ushers in improvements in other areas like Audio, cameras, and display colors, dynamic range, and contrast.

The Snapdragon 720G is positioned below Snapdragon 730G, but the two chips have quite a few similarities in terms of specifications.

Snapdragon 720G Key Features:

  • Snapdragon 720G is based on a power-efficient 8nm process. There are 2x Cortex A76 cores clocked up to 2.3GHz, and six regular Cortex-A55 cores that go up to 1.8GHz. Qualcomm claims a 60% improvement in performance compared to last generation chipset.
  • Qualcomm 720G is a game-centric chipset and banks on Adreno 618 GPU that delivers up to 75% performance improvement for new gaming APIs.
  • Snapdragon 720G phones will have support for Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging and USB PD.
  • Apart from gaming, the Snapdragon 720G has support for advanced entertainment features.
  • The SoC integrates X15 LTE modem, the same modem which you’d find on Snapdragon 730. The SoC supports VP9 and HEVC codecs
  • Snapdragon 720G has Qualcomm aptX HD support for 24-bit wireless audio output.
  •  The chipset supports Wi-Fi6 and Bluetooth 5.1
  • Camera features include support for 4K recording and up to 192MP sensor resolution
