We finally know all the 2018 iPad Pro specs
The last specifications of the new iPad Pro models just recently came to light. Apple unveiled this model at the end of last month but there are some very important technical details this company never reveals about iOS devices: processor speed and RAM. It’s up to the public to find them out.
On top of that, a technical glitch in a popular benchmarking app kept the exact speed of the tablet unknown to most even after it was in customer hands. But no more.
2018 iPad Pro processor speed
The Apple A12X Bionic processor in the latest iPad Pro runs at 2.48 GHz. That’s up from the 2.39 GHz A10X Bionic in the 2017 version.
And the performance of the newest iOS computer is improved in another way, too. Apple had already announced that the A12X Bionic is an octa-core chip, with four processor cores providing maximum performance and four slower cores used when battery life is more important. The A10X Bionic in the previous model has six cores.
A faster clock speed and additional cores result in a significant speed increase. Our test 2018 iPad Pro scored 18,015 on the multi-core portion of GeekBench 4. The 2017 iPad Pro scored 9,331 on this same test, according to Primate Labs.
2018 iPad Pro RAM
Another of the important 2018 iPad Pro specs that’s recently come to light is the amount of RAM installed.
Apple took a very unusual route with this model. Only units configured with 1TB of internal storage have 6GB of RAM. All others have 4GB — the same amount as all 2017 iPad Pro configurations, and considered plenty by experts.
This is the first time the amount of RAM in an iPad depended on storage capacity. Previously, every configuration had the same.
This detail was rumored before the iPad debuted, but confirmed when it reached customer hands this week.
Why Apple didn’t just reveal all the 2018 iPad Pro specs the same way it does MacBook or iMac specifications is a mystery with no solution.
